About Knack Factory

Knack Factory is a creative and strategic content production firm based in Portland, Maine.  We have engineered and overseen thousands of productions in dozens of states throughout these United States, and in countries scattered across the globe. From New York to Thailand, from Los Angeles to Myanmar, we’ve shot there.

Trained and tested in our respective disciplines among Olympians, globally recognized apparel lines, and campaigns, we are uniquely equipped to dominate, bringing to it collective decades of experience to shaping our approach. We are skilled not only in our digital craft, but in assembling and improving upon strategies along the way.

Make it better than you ever imagined it could be.

Alex Steed

Partner + Producer + Wrangler

In addition to writing and executing social campaign strategies and planning events, Alex oversees project execution and day-to-day agency operations, manages staff and resources, and services client accounts. Having worked with Change.org, NetSquared, and a number of organizations and businesses, he brings years of experience creating web-based community outreach strategies to the table. He also writes a column about entrepreneurship and popular culture for The Bangor Daily News.

Lindsay Heald

Producer

Lindsay is in charge of making sure our productions and related operations go smoothly. Obsessed with photography since high school, she has produced shoots and projects large and small for the past 5 years. She is especially fascinated by documentary shoots, as Lindsay appreciates people in their most natural states and enjoys telling those stories. She occasionally runs half marathons and joined our team in 2015.

Zack Bowen

Partner + Lead Photographer

Zack oversees our photography division. Before his time with Knack Factory, he spent the better part of a decade overseeing the L.L. Bean photo studio, and he oversaw the development of their 15,000 square foot facility in Westbrook. Zack began his career in Dallas over a decade ago when he worked in a commercial photo studio. From Dallas, he went freelance, focusing on food, editorial and commercial work. His past clients include Men’s Vogue, Maxim Magazine, Boston Magazine, and Formaggio Kitchen, as well as a substantial number of restaurants and local clients.

Thomas Starkey

associate producer

Thomas is our most recent hire, although he's been with us since the very beginning -we're talking Food Coma days.  Thomas is a persistent learner, rarely letting an unknown task stop him in his tracks.  Most recently, he has delved into motion graphics and prompted us to embrace animation more.  A Maine native and UMaine alum, Thomas can usually be found on his boat in Casco Bay, at his camp in central Maine, or at home with his Newfoundland.

Kurt Graser

Partner + Lead Video Producer

Kurt oversees our video production division. In the field of television, broadcast and video for a decade and a half, he has worked for ESPN, NBCSports, and Octagon Sports Media. He has enjoyed working with people recognized for being at the top of their field including, but not limited to, Michael Phelps, Seth Wescott and Alana Blanchard. Graser is a husband, father, and musician. He enjoys educating teenagers about media production.
